DIY painting techniques

DIY painting techniques are effective if you use the proper material and methods. Any person is capable of transforming a room into a masterpiece. You need to understand and apply the paint according to the instructions as displayed on the product.

Too start off use a basic method. This is to prevent you from being overwhelmed by the idea. Practice on a small area of wall that you want to change. The idea is to experiment. Remember what you do not like you can fix later on.

A technique that is easy to use is white washing. Brush the area with a dark tone first. Let it dry. Then use a light color and brush in long strokes over the dark tone. You will see that the dark color shines through. You do not require layers and layers of this paint because then you will loose the effect that you are trying to create.

If you want to have a more marble look you can use the cloth technique. You also start by using a dark primary color. After it is dry, take a rag, dip it into a light tinted color and roll it up in a swirl. Press it onto the wall and work step by step from one side to the other. This is a time consuming method but the outcome is astonishing.

Sponging is another option. Place it in the paint holder and dab it on to the wall. Do not go over it too many times because you will create more of a smudge. Remember always to use the darker palette first and then the lighter one on top. The end result you desire will depend on the size of sponge you use.

To change or create a different feel to a room is not difficult. Save money by painting the walls at first and then changing the furniture. Gain knowledge by reading up, visiting to a hardware stores and speaking to a professional designer. Sign up for classes to enrich your own skills. Collect pictures that inspire you. Paste it into a book. Refer back when needed. Look at friends and families houses and draw inspiration from it.
